Every man and woman had the privilege of receiving revelation to guide them within their sphere of authority.

The Bible is an additional guide, but only direct communication with God can be the ultimate guide. Nothing else can be 100% trustworthy because scripture is open to interpretation. Without clarification from God, scripture can be twisted to justify all sorts of evil, including slavery and murder.

While it may not be God's fault if men misinterpret what he says, he nevertheless does give us means by which we can know the true interpretation.

If not for a RULE to go by, then anything goes. It's not in man to direct his own steps.A Law was given to bring man back to GOD.Don't tell me God still directs each man as through Patriarchy&Moses is no longer in charge. Now we are to listen to God's Son.The only Rule for man is the Bible. If we're not satisfied with that ,that's our fault.Cain left the sin offering at the door and his offering wasn't acceptable. If I interpret the Bible wrong it's not God's fault.

The thing is that when John wrote the Book of Revelation, there was no Bible, so what he said can only have referred to the Book of Revelation itself.

As for searching the scriptures to see whether things are so or not, that's all well and good as long as you have the correct interpretation of the scriptures. As we can see by the very existence of many different Christian churches, not everyone agrees on what the words of the Bible mean. Thus the need to have direct communication with God in order to get the correct interpretation.

All scipture is given by inspiration of God,and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 2Timothy3:16,17 And since God knew man he had Paul write 2 verses later;for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and be turned unto fables. The correct principle of revelation should be that it was completed sometime in the first century given that John ended his last letter with a curse on "adding or taking away"from the writing of the Book. If anything pops up after this then we should at least be like the noble Bereans and search the Scriptures daily to see whether those thing are so.
